The Mayors’ Race: The turtle, the rabbit, the fox and the elephant, a cast of great cartoon characters.
Friday, October 23, 2009 at 12:26PM I will not name names and I will not point fingers at the obvious characters running for office this election term. I will not result to name-calling or uncovering dirty laundry or pointing out the flaws of these candidates. I would like to ask; does anyone feel crime will decrease under any of these politicians? Does anyone feel that the education system will get better under any of these candidates? The Mayor’s office only controls hiring police, the Mayor doesn’t screen them for racial sensitivity or community partnering. The Mayors office isn’t over education and has little to do with the school board system.
I will let you decide who the Sly Fox is that is trying to look all professional and clean cut like Shirley
Mary Norwood Franklin or the young rabbit running his heart out full of youthful and bright ideas. I will let you guess who the slow talking turtle is, seasoned and well connected with politicians. I will not even take the time out to point out the elephant in the room amongst all these characters with all her Republican and Jewish financial support.
I look at the commercials and I think to myself, will any of these candidates rebuild the west-end of Atlanta? Will any of these candidates bring businesses back to the Auburn area? The campaign so far has been a typical American campaign, the usual talk of more police officers; the controversial race questions cause one candidate is White and has a ton of money. I heard the media talking about crime and more police and how we need to hire more firemen. I thought to myself, why is hiring more teachers a popular slogan for politicians? I will tell you why, because being stupid and dumbed down as a society is truly the American way.
Do we really think more police officers are going to stop crime? If you get rid of the police all together
Lisa Borderswould drugs and crime go down? I think it would go down and the agents who put guns and drugs in our communities would finally be gone. I think about what attracted me to Atlanta. It is the Arts, the culture of Black people and the wealth of the community being enjoyed by African Americans. I wonder what happened to that?
I hear a lot of Black people saying that since the last couple of Mayors have been Black, maybe we need to give a white person a chance? I laugh because I now understand how White people felt when they voted for Obama. Why do things have to get so bad before we are willing to make a change? I don’t think it has anything to do with White or Black. I think we really need to look over the previous questions and ask who is going to bring jobs into our community? Why aren’t there summer programs for youth so they can work and stay out of trouble over the summer? Who will make lending institutions do business with those who live in the communities where grocery stores,
Jesse Spikeslaundromats and everything else is owned by foreigners or people outside the community?
I hear folks talking about candidates because they come out of the Shirley Franklin camp. I say to those people, don’t forget Mayor Shirley Franklin came out of the Maynard Jackson camp. I am not originally from Atlanta but anyone who can read history can clearly see Maynard was the best Mayor this city or country has ever seen that promoted and supported minorities. The thing with Maynard was that he was not afraid to give the contracting jobs to Black people who are the majority in this city. African Americans are the only group in this country that feel like it is wrong to look out for their own people. Everybody does it! The Jews, Italians, the Mexicans and everybody else looks out for their own. When we get in a position to promote things that are Black, we start thinking of how we can include everybody else. I am not saying I am a separatist, but the first law of the universe is self-first. The jobs created by the building of Atlantic Station should have gone to Black owned construction companies.
I know everyone will call this reverse racism, which is not even a term or condition because either you are racist or not, and I am not. I don’t think it is wrong to be pro-Black, especially when everyone keeps telling you your race is becoming extinct and it’s obvious who is working overtime to see that happen.
I will not at this time endorse a candidate. I am waiting until after the debates this weekend. I will
Kasim Reedhowever say that one particular candidate has a clue! He speaks about bringing the strong art presence back to Atlanta. He also speaks about single moms and helping them and their children with after school programs. He actually talks about the youth like they are human instead of future workers for this demonic penal system. I will not try to tell people who to vote for. I just ask that all people voting question what they are voting for and not who they are voting for. Until truth prevails my eyes will be watching.
