Thanksgiving: Holiday fun and family gathering or massacre cover up?

I know we all have heard the story of how the pilgrims came to this country and befriended the Indians. The Indians shook their hands, welcomed them to the new country and they cooked a large feast. They celebrated the coming together of the two people in harmony and righteousness and the joining together of their families.

The truth of the matter is Europeans called Purist were being kicked out of Europe for their religious beliefs against the church. They had visited this part of the world before and befriended a Native American who they kidnapped, brought back to the New World and used him to trick one tribe into thinking they would help them fight against a neighboring tribe they were at war with. They then killed off that tribe with small pox blankets. When the other tribe thought they had won, the Europeans turned on them and slaughtered and killed them.

“The Wampanoag were actually invited to that Thanksgiving feast for the purpose of negotiating a treaty that would secure the lands of the Plymouth Plantation for the Pilgrims. It should also be noted that the INDIANS, possibly out of a sense of charity toward their hosts, ended up bringing the majority of the food for the feast”.(1)

“A generation later, after the balance of power had indeed shifted, the Indian and White children of that Thanksgiving were striving to kill each other in the genocidal conflict known as King Philip's War. At the end of that conflict most of the New England Indians were either exterminated or refugees among the French in Canada, or they were sold into slavery in the Carolinas” by the Puritans. So successful was this early trade in Indian slaves that several Puritan ship owners in Boston began the practice of raiding the Ivory Coast of Africa for black slaves to sell to the proprietary colonies of the South, thus founding the American-based slave trade. (2)

The Europeans would send word back to England about their conquering of savages. The celebration would happen when they came and killed off a Native American family. They would cook and have a big feast and call it Thanksgiving in mockery of the first time their ancestors tricked the Native Americans.

“But when a large number of Indians were observed gathered near Providence, the Colonies came together and formed an army of about 1,000 men. Six companies of Massachusetts’ militia marched from Dedham on December 10th and were joined at North Kingston, R.I. by troops from the Plymouth and Connecticut Colonies. They destroyed the Indian's fortified village on the morning of December 19th after a three-hour fight. Eighty Colonists were killed and 150 wounded. Indian losses were reported as "about 1,000 killed" (no wounded!); most of who may well have been women and children”.(3)

Christopher Columbus on his discovery of the new world called Native Americans Indians. He was trying to find a new route into India. The Original people had kicked Caucasians out of the Eastern part of the world. They would have to study for 33 and a half years before we would allow them back among us. They would have to enter the gate where the forever flame sits. This is how Masonry came about. We would consider them honorary sons after they studied the science for this amount of time.

I hear people saying all the time they are celebrating the things they are thankful for and not the actual meaning of the holiday. I hear Black folks say all the time “this is the time we all get together as a family”. I love the movie Soul Food because it tells the truth about family. When we really love each other, we get together every Sunday. We do not wait for a holiday to all get together. This is just an excuse to be ignorant. We have to stop feeling as a people like the only thing that was wrong with slavery and the colonization of America is that we didn’t think of it first. We should be the last people celebrating this holiday, especially since the majority of Black folks in America claim they got Indian in their family. How is this to be a day of celebration and family for us? I don’t understand this. One day they are going to have us celebrating slavery and calling it Civil Rights Day. Until truth prevails my eyes will be watching.

Did you know?

That after the Pilgrims' first feast of Thanksgiving, they did not celebrate a similar occasion again…

That Thanksgiving became a national holiday in 1863, thanks to President Abraham Lincoln…

That the Pilgrims and their friends, the Wampanoag Indians really did eat turkey at the first Thanksgiving-but they also ate other wild fowl, like duck, goose, swan, crane, and even eagles...
